About

Chambers Drum, an industry leader and nationally recognized company, is a family business dating back four generations. Our exceptional quality of service started in the early 1900s.

In the early 1900s, Elijah Lodrick Williams and his company, William’s Cooperage, saw a need to take wooden barrels, wash them, and return them to cater to a soft drink company. This was our first instance of drum/barrel reconditioning.

Unfortunately Elijah suffered his untimely death on May 14th, 1956, but the business continued. It was taken over by his son Ed Williams and renamed Used Drums Bought and Sold. Along with the name change, the business shifted focus from wood barrels to brokering steel drums. Shortly after this, Ed’s brother, (Doc) Horace Williams, joined Used Drums Bought and Sold to truly make it a family business.

In the late 1970s, Ellen and William Chambers Sr., who worked with Ed Williams, purchased the drum business after Ed’s death. Following the purchase, William Chambers Sr. renamed the business to Drums Bought and Sold. William Chambers Sr. and Ellen Chambers ran the business until 1985. Then William Chambers Jr. and Patricia Chambers took over the family business and started Chambers Drum Company Incorporated and expanded the business significantly. This included drum reconditioning for steel closed-head, steel open-head and intermediate bulk containers as well as end-of-life recycling for steel, plastic, and intermediate bulk containers with the end product going to the post secondary market.

After the death of William Chambers Sr. in 2009, William Chambers Jr. and Patricia Chambers opened a new open head drum plant in his honor – Drums Bought and Sold. Drums Bought and Sold specializes in drum reclamation. These days, William Chambers Jr. and Patricia Chambers are now joined by a 4th generation family member, Alex Bowen, who will carry on the family tradition dating back all those years.
